The top student in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) scored 433 marks out of 500, Education Ministry Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha has announced.

The top candidate, Mumo Faith from Kari-Mwailu Primary School topped the KCPE 2020 from a public school setting a new trend in KCPE results.

In the results released on Thursday, April 15, public schools outshone private schools by dominating the top ten list.

Wesonga Yvette Nanzala from Chogoria Girls and Muriithi Angel Gakenia from Maseno Girls Boarding tied as second students with 432 marks each.

Wanyonyi Samuel Makhanu from Nzoia Sugar Co School, Castro Williams from Crystal Hill Academy and Tarus Chepkemoi Laureen from St Matthews School scored 431 marks each ranking as number four.

Kipkirui Abiud from Lessos Hills Adventist scored 430 ranking as number seven followed by Margaret Waruguru from DEB Karatina who had 429 marks.

Bernice Checed Omondi (Nairobi Primary School) ranked as number eight with 429 marks, tying with Kiogora Joy Nkatha from Chogoria Girls.

Daniel Chris Mboya from Crystal Hill Academy was the next with 428 marks where they tied as four candidates. The rest are: Njenga Lowell Mwagambo(Emmanuel Springs Academy), Jeff Mutugi(Fred’s Academy) Polycup Kiyondi Ombongi(Ober Boys) and Debrah Zawadi (Emmanuel Springs Academy).

Overall, public schools took nine slots in the top ten KCPE candidates and 11 in the top 15, leaving private schools with four slots.
