Kathiani Constituency Member of Parliament Robert Mbui now wants live streaming of results during the election to be scrabbed.

Speaking to a local station on Monday, the MP said live streaming of results is a recipe for chaos.

“We need to scrap live streaming because Kenyans tend to assume that a leader who has taken an early lead in the election, has won,” he argued.

Citing the 2007 general election which he claimed the presidential election was stolen, Mbui said candidates have strongholds that can deceive people to believe they have won.

“You have seen newspaper headlines that say so and so has taken an early lead. Unfortunately in Kenya, when a newspaper says that, all your people will believe you are winning.

“And if this changes, then your people will go to the streets,” he said.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati last week defended the Elections Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022,  saying people have wrongly interpreted it.

In a statement on Friday, Chebukati dismissed reports indicating that the bill seeks to scrap live transmission of elections results and replace it with a manual method.

“The bill proposes a complementary mechanism for result transmission to address instances where transmission of results is not possible owing to lack of 3G network which is the minimum standard required for transmission of results Form,” Chebukati said.
