Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has condemned a section of leaders who have castigated Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and called for his resignation after he appealed to President William Ruto to put an end to abductions in the country.

Speaking during a morning TV show on Monday, February 3, 2025, Mbui said that the very fabric of the nation and that Muturi was in order to demand answers over his son’s abduction.

“The very fabric of this nation is being destroyed. I want to condemn those people fighting the CS for Public Service because he raised a concern that also touches him personally. His own son was abducted,” Mbui said.

Hooded men in balaclavas

Mbui also revealed that at the height of the Gen Z protests in 2024, hooded people holding guns were given access to the National Assembly to ostensibly secure the premises during the breach.

“When the Gen Zs came to parliament, these same people covered with balaclavas came to parliament. They drove in with Subaru vehicles, walked out of their vehicles holding guns, covered their face and were in plain clothes; I even asked the sergeant at-arms who these people were,” Mbui noted.

In Muturi’s defence, Gatanga MP Edward Muriu expressed his disappointment with the Kenya-Kwanza government, noting that as one of the drafters of the ruling party’s manifesto, the state was doing the exact opposite of what was promised.

“If kids are being abducted and Muturi has said it openly, I don’t see why Muturi should be threatened with impeachment because he is saying stop these abductions,” Muriu said.

A section of leaders including Environment CS Aden Duale, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, Oscar Sudi and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed have called on Muturi to exit the cabinet.

Suspicious timing

“This desperate move, made now that your political career has waned, is a clear blackmail attempt,” Sudi noted on January 15, 2025.

“The timing is highly suspicious, revealing a cowardly man clutching at straws for political expediency,” he added.

However, the discussion has taken a new turn after National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula waded into the matter, urging police officers to investigate who the faces behind the abductions were.

“We shudder to get back to any situation yenye tulikuwa tunapata miili katika River Yala na kwingineSerikali ya Kenya-Kwanza iliahidi na inazingatia respect for human rights. So, IG, DCI and ODPP, lazima mfanye uchunguzi wa kina na kwa haraka iwezekanavyo ili tukomeshe hii mambo ambayo inaleta jina mbaya kwa nchi yetu,” Wetangula noted.

The remarks were echoed by the Archbishop of the Anglican church in Kenya Jackson ole Sapit on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

“It is perturbing to hear the police saying they are not involved and they don’t know who is doing it. We cannot live in a country where those who are entrusted with the lives of Kenyans are telling us they don’t know what is happening,” Sapit said.
