Kasmuel McOure: ODM is the only progressive and pro-people movement
Political activist Kasmuel McOure has continued to defend his move to join Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
The activist has had to deal with massive criticism since he decided to join a political outfit after the Gen Z demonstrations propelled him to public limelight.
While castigating other parties, as special-purpose vehicles, McOure highlighted why ODM is the ideal party one can join.
“The Jubilee Party was formed when I was in the first year, and I have never seen any solid grounding in terms of ideology from that party. If you think critically about it, you will see that it was a special-purpose vehicle, like UDA, to win elections.
“If you look at Inject Party, it came at a time when we had agreed that we should just keep this as a movement. A party that lacks ideology, and even the founding members have come out to castigate the party leader as one who is serving self-interest.
“Think also about UDA, which was found to win elections and has no grounding elections,” McOure said during an interview with a local TV station on Friday, December 13, 2024.
He said that the citizens cannot achieve their political dreams by just shouting without direction, and this, he said, informed his decision to join the Orange Party.
“With the realisation that there are some people who are committed to empty sloganeering, we cannot do away with imperialism by hurling insults at it. We will not have Ruto leave the office by chanting, ‘Ruto must go’.
“We must be organised, and I looked at this political scene and I said I am taking a political angle and I wanted to join a party that had political grounding and proved by the test of time,” he continued.
Why ODM?
According to the revolutionist, ODM is an ideal party because, he asserts, Raila’s outfit has been consistent in championing the interests of Kenyans.
“I looked for a party that alligned with my values and the ODM party is a centre-left, social democratic party. It quite alligned with what I was looking for. Constitutional reforms in this country have been driven by ODM.
“Electoral reforms have been driven by my party leader. There is no single individual who has tested electoral laws as much as my party leader has.
The opposition of the Finance Act were driven by ODM as well. If you think about the push for justice of victims of police brutality, we think about Baby Pendo, the ODM has constantly been at the forefront.
“If they are looking for a progressive pro-people movement that has consistently fought for the rights of people, you can only find it in Orange Democratic Movement,” he concluded.
