Karua hits back at doubters of women’s leadership after widespread criticism of Samia Suluhu
United opposition politician Martha Karua has hit back at the criticism directed at women’s leadership, stressing that the assertion amounts to an unfair condemnation of women.
In an interview on a local TV station on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Karua stated that the tendency to brand all women as incapable leaders for the misgiving of an individual was unjustified.
Blanket condemnation
She referenced Ruto’s leadership and that of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin as examples of bad leadership that did not emanate from women.
“I want to remind you that Idi Amin and Adolf Hitler were not females. Today, in Kenya, it is not a woman ruling, and people are being killed. So do not commit the mistake of blaming one woman’s mistakes on all women. When a man errs, we don’t heap the blame on all men,” she stated while commenting on the happenings in Tanzania under the leadership of Samia Suluhu.

According to Karua, the country should now consider imparting leadership responsibility to a woman. She alluded to a mother’s caring and fair disposition in the household.
Ready for woman presidency
“In our country, no woman has been in charge of overseeing the country. I am eagerly bidding for my time. You know, when a mother is in charge, the needs of the whole household will be catered to,” she added.
The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader further stated that she would only serve for a single term if elected for the country’s top job.

She decried the tendency by African leaders to cling to power beyond their mandatory terms.
“When we say ‘one-term’, it’s no disrespect. I will only serve for a single term. It is enough to show what one can achieve. I will still serve for a single term even if I perform exceptionally well. We have to remind African leaders that a public seat is not one’s title deed. When your term is up, you need to pack and leave,” she added. in the household set-up, and catering to the needs of all in the family.
