Kanini Kega: Kalonzo must be allowed to speak at Raila’s burial

By , October 18, 2025

Former Kieni Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega has argued that Wiper Party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka must be given a chance to address mourners at the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Bondo.

Kanini Kega has joined a host of opposition leaders and political analysts who have shared their frustrations following Kalonzo Musyoka’s sidelining at the state funeral of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Taking to his X account on Saturday, October 18, 2025, during the public body viewing of Raila Odinga at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo, in Kisumu, Kega said Kalonzo should be allowed to speak on behalf of many who may not get the chance to address the public at Odinga’s burial.

”HE Kalonzo MUSYOKA EGH must be allowed to SPEAK tomorrow on behalf of ALL of US who in ONE way or another MADE sacrifices for BABA. Will as many have a similar opinion, aye?” He posed.

Cherargei’s contrary opinion

However, Nandi County Senator Samson Cheragei has stated that the Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, should not complain about being denied a chance to speak at the state funeral of the former prime minister on Friday.

On his part, Senator Cherargei, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, said Kalonzo Musyoka should be the last person to complain about being denied the opportunity to share a word on his long-term political ally after betraying him in the 2007 election chaos.

”Kalonzo should be the last to complain that he was denied the chance to eulogise Jakom Raila yesterday at the state funeral service. He should be reminded in 2007, when Raila was a heartbeat away from the presidency, he betrayed him by running against him and supporting the illegitimate win of Kibaki that plunged the country into the 2007/08 post-election violence (PV), while President Ruto stood with Raila until he became the 2nd prime minister of Kenya,’ Cherargei took to X on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Political analyst Herman Manyora has argued that denying Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka a chance to speak during the particular ceremony was shameful. Manyora said Kalonzo deserved a chance to speak a word about Raila, an ally with whom they have walked a long journey in Kenya’s politics.

”Not giving Kalonzo Musyoka time to speak was an act of national shame that must be condemned by all Kenyans. Kalonzo’s support for Raila, to the point of sacrifice, is unmatched. Let no one say there wasn’t time because Kindiki himself squandered so much time saying nothing,” Manyora said.
