Kaluma: Maraga is too mean to give youths fare
Homa Bay Town (MP) Peter Kaluma has castigated presidential hopeful David Maraga’s opposition to the state-sanctioned victims compensation plan, branding the retired Chief Justice Emeritus a miser.
In a statement on his X page on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Kaluma claimed that Maraga is not easily parted with his money despite earning huge perks in retirement benefits.
“This joker takes home over Ksh5 million in retirement benefits every month, but he is too mean to give youths fare,” he stated.

Kaluma also tore into the retired CJ, who has styled himself as the Gen Z candidate of choice, slamming his association with the victims of injustices from police brutality while at the same time opposing plans by the government to compensate them.
“He loiters around with Kenyan women whose children died, pretending he is seeking compensation but opposes the compensation team and arrangement instituted by the Broad-Based Government,” he said.

His sentiment comes after Maraga pledged to make constitutionalism and the rule of law hallmarks in his presidency if he succeeds the current regime.
In a campaign pledge on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Maraga outlined his vision of a Kenya rooted in justice and humanity.
“A future with me as president is a future where the Kenyans will be allowed to run their own affairs. We are going to have a country where the rule of law will be followed.”

“We are going to have a country where we are going to be humane and give back humanity to Kenyans. That’s why I have said that my philosophy is to follow what the Constitution requires us to follow,” he said.
Maraga’s presidential bid
Maraga announced his presidential bid in June 2025, following consultations across the country. He emphasised that his candidacy is not driven by personal enrichment but by service to the people.

His “Maraga’27” campaign slogan is structured around integrity, transparency, and constitutional fidelity.
