Kalonzo on 2027 presidential election vote search after Wiper party endorsement

Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) boss Kalonzo Musyoka has now hit the road in a vote-hunting mission after being endorsed by his party.
Kalonzo who yesterday chaired the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, got the nod to start criss-crossing the country in readiness for the 2027 presidential contest against incumbent President William Ruto.
Sources who attended the meeting and sought anonymity told People Daily that the party’s NEC endorsed Kalonzo’s plan to contest in the 2027 polls.
Aware that President Ruto will use the State machinery to defend his seat, the Wiper party has told Kalonzo to consolidate his support political bastion and attract other like-minded friends to build a formidable force.
“Essentially, we have asked Kalonzo to start mobilising his base and court other like-minded allies. We believe that Kalonzo has all the stakes to beat President Ruto in a free and fair contest,” said the source.
Makueni lawmaker Dan Maanzo, a close ally of Kalonzo’s, told People Daily that Kalonzo has no choice but to hit the road in a serious manner and to harvest as many disciples as he can for the race ahead.
Maanzo said all the Azimio affiliates should stick together, work hard and employ better strategies if they are to beat Ruto in the 2027 polls.
“All Azimio affiliates should not be deceived to go separate ways. If any of the affiliates do, then we will take it that it is part of the Kenya Kwanza strategy to weaken the opposition coalition. We must stick together and we will win the 2027 polls,” said Maanzo.
Marshall troops
Maanzo argued that Kalonzo has all it takes to be the next President, but warned that he has to marshall enough troops across the country.
Already legislators from the lower Easter of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui have started a caucus with leaders from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi in a bid to consolidate Kalonzo’s political bedrock.
Wiper Democratic Movement will intensify its ongoing nationwide party membership recruitment drive,” said Abdalla in a statement read on behalf of NEC.
She went on: “We encourage Wiper members, supporters, and all Kenyans to join in the journey towards building a better and more prosperous future for our nation under the leadership of Kalonzo.”
According to Wiper party, the Kenya Kwanza policies have failed to alleviate the living standards of the people and the current economic hardships and turmoil are as a result of highhandedness and insensitivity on the part of the regime in power.
“The Party reminds the Nation that this is the time for leaders who care for its people and with a track record of defending the constitution. We urge Kenyans not to lose hope and remind them that WDM has a leader who is fit for the leadership of the country.
