Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sent a heartfelt message of condolence to Matungulu Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Mule and his family following the passing of his mother, Philomena Mueni Mule.

Kalonzo, in a statement shared via his official X account on the night of Saturday, April 26, 2025, said that he had received the news about the passing of the lawmaker’s mother on Saturday evening.

In his message of condolences, the former vice president described the late Mueni as an incredible mother.

He further noted that Mueni was a wife to the late Pius Mule, who was his friend and community leader.

“My heart is with Matungulu MP Hon. @StephenMule1‘s family this evening following the passing on of his beloved mother Philomena Mueni Mule. You’ve said goodbye to an incredible mother, wife to the late Pius Mule, friend, and community leader,” Kalonzo’s statement read in part.

Kalonzo lauds Mule’s mother

He went ahead to laud the deceased for moulding MP Mule into what he described as fearless and articulate and a conscientious, dedicated member of our society.

Kalonzo also lauded the lawmaker’s mother’s role in the community, noting that she was more than a matriarch in name, describing her as an incredible force of nature, calm and exact, and an inspiration to so many.

“Your mum moulded you to be what you are today: fearless and articulate and a conscientious dedicated member of our society. Mama Mule was more than a matriarch in name; she was an incredible force of nature, calm and exact, and an inspiration to so many. We honour and respect her time with us. May Philomena Mueni Mule rest in eternal peace,” Kalonzo stated.

However, Kalonzo, in his statement, did not reveal the cause of Mama Philomena Mueni’s death.

Other leaders mourn

Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya has also mourned with his colleague Mule for the passing of his mother.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing on of Philomena Mueni, mother to Hon. Stephen Mule, MP Matungulu Constituency. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Losing a parent is one of life’s greatest sorrows, and I can only imagine the pain you’re going through. Know that you are in my thoughts, and I am here for you as you navigate through this profound loss. With deepest sympathy,” Kawaya wrote on Facebook.

Machakos County Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi also joined other leaders in the mourning.

“It’s with great sadness that I have learnt of the passing on of Mwaitu Philomena Mueni, beloved mother to Matungulu Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Stephen Mutinda Mule. Accept my sincere condolences, Mheshimiwa, and may the Lord grant you and your entire family strength to remain strong during this moment. May Mum’s soul rest in peace,” Mwangangi stated.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Yatta MP Robert Basil and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu have also sent their messages of condolence.
