Kalonzo: Leaders must champion youth and invest in creative economy
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on leaders to actively support Kenya’s youth by investing in the creative economy, emphasising its potential to transform lives and communities.
Speaking on Sunday, October 5, 2025, during the unveiling of gospel artist Angel K at Tajmall Grounds in Nairobi, Musyoka highlighted the importance of leadership in nurturing talent and creating opportunities.
In a post on his official X account, Musyoka described the event as “truly uplifting,” noting, “It was more than a celebration of talent, it was a reminder of what passion, purpose and belief can achieve when given the right platform.” He was joined by leaders, including Musili Mawathe, Gideon Mulyungi, Irungu Nyakera, Gloria Orwoba, and several MCAs to witness “the birth of a new voice in our creative industry.”

Supporting talent
Musyoka underscored the transformative role of youth in shaping Kenya’s cultural and economic landscape.
“Kenya’s young people have so much potential, and when their talent is supported, they not only entertain but also shape culture, inspire change and create opportunities for others,” he stated.
He urged leaders to take responsibility in championing youth initiatives. “As leaders, it is our responsibility to continue opening doors for the youth, to believe in their dreams and to invest in the industries that allow them to thrive. The creative economy is one of the greatest assets our nation has, and when nurtured, it can transform lives and communities.”
Extending his congratulations to Angel K, Musyoka added, “May your journey in music continue to touch hearts, bring people together and remind us all that Kenya’s future is as bright as the dreams of its youth.”
The event drew a vibrant crowd and featured performances in traditional attire, showcasing the richness of Kenya’s gospel music scene.

National youth empowerment efforts
Musyoka’s remarks align with broader national efforts to empower youth and boost the creative sector. Former Chief Justice and presidential hopeful David Maraga, in a post on September 2, 2025, outlined his “Rebuild the Economy Plan,” stating, “I agree on the untapped opportunities for young people. My administration will make it easy to protect, value, trade, finance, and enforce Intellectual Property created in Kenya.”
Similarly, the National Assembly Committee on Social Protection, led by Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, committed on October 3, 2025, to support the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project. The initiative, backed by Ksh5 billion from the government and the World Bank, targets 820,000 youth with skills training, entrepreneurship support, and savings schemes.
President William Ruto also announced plans to support 100,000 youth across 1,450 wards during the NYOTA rollout on October 1, 2025, at State House, underscoring a growing national focus on youth empowerment.
