Kalonzo joins global call to end attacks on journalists
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has joined world leaders and international organisations in calling for an end to violence and impunity against journalists, saying that freedom of the press is central to democracy and accountability.
In a statement posted on his X account on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Kalonzo echoed the words of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, writing, “When journalists are silenced, we all lose our voice.”

His remarks come as the world marks the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, a day that highlights the growing risks reporters face while pursuing truth and justice.
Across the globe, journalists continue to face harassment, imprisonment, and even death in the line of duty, often without those responsible being brought to justice.
Kalonzo said he stands in solidarity with the global community, led by the United Nations, in defending press freedom and ensuring justice for victims of attacks.
“Today, I join the world community, led by the UN, in calling for the end of impunity for crimes against journalists,” he stated.

He described journalists as the heartbeat of democracy, playing a crucial role in exposing corruption and ensuring transparency in governance. “We fully support the critical role of an independent press holding power to account, exposing corruption and ensuring transparent governance,” Kalonzo added.
By supporting the global campaign, Kalonzo’s statement reflects growing concern over the safety of journalists who face intimidation or violence simply for doing their jobs. The United Nations has consistently warned that the suppression of press freedom threatens democracy and weakens institutions meant to serve the people.
Kalonzo’s stand aligns with a broader global movement urging governments to safeguard media freedom and hold perpetrators accountable. His message adds a powerful political voice to the call for justice, reminding leaders that protecting journalists means protecting the truth itself and the citizens who depend on it.
