Kabuchai MP sets conditions for backing Wetangula in 2027
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has announced that he will only support National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula in the 2027 elections if Wetangula is on the ballot either as a presidential candidate or as a running mate.
Speaking at his home in Kabuchai on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Kalasinga, who has often been at odds with his party, Ford-Kenya, declared that he will not rally behind any leader, including Wetangula or Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, if they are not contesting directly.
He made it clear that in 2027, he will not support a leader merely because they have chosen to back another candidate, as was the case in 2022 when he stood with Wetangula because of his support for President William Ruto.
“And in leadership of this country, I want to tell those leaders – whether it is Musalia, whether it is Wetangula, or any other person – that Majimbo Kalasinga will not support a supporter. If you are a supporter of someone else, I will not support you,” Majimbo declared
Advice to Wetangula
Kalasinga stressed that if Wetangula is not given the deputy president’s slot, currently held by Kithure Kindiki, he will not back him in 2027.
He argued that securing the position would not only guarantee Wetangula’s influence in the next administration but would also provide him with a strong path to the presidency in 2032.

“I will only support a person who is going to be on the ballot. Meanza kasumba ya Kudanganya sisi waluhya, kusema Moses Wetangula atakuwa raisi 2032, mimi sikatai. If they indeed want Wetangula to be the president in 2032, these 2027 elections give him the running mate position. You can’t have Ruto as the president with Kindiki as his deputy, alafu ati ikifika 2032 tunatupa Kindiki tunafanya Wetangula rais,” Majimbo said
“If the running mate slot is given to Wetangula in 2027, then we will be sure that 2032 will be for you,” Majimbo stated
The legislator further lamented that the Western region has been shortchanged politically for too long, saying leaders from the area have consistently been sidelined and hoodwinked.
He maintained that 2027 presents the right moment for leaders from Western Kenya to rise to the occasion, seek the top seat, and demand meaningful
