Justina Wamae blasts Nairobi County leadership over poor drainage system
Former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae has blasted the Nairobi City County leadership for a poor drainage system that paralyses transport and business in the city centre and its outskirts due to flooding.
Taking to X on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Justina Wamae reacted to the difficulties faced by Nairobi commuters and businesses owing to the aftermath of heavy rains that pounded the city on Friday evening, October 3, 2025.
The politician also wondered how such a thing could happen when the administration has assigned a large number of contractors to improve the city’s road and drainage system.
”Nairobi city drainage is blocked after only two hours of rain. Be reminded that the same county employs 100 thousand + of contractors. Additionally, the same roads have a dedicated KURA, KENHA, and KEERA maintenance contractor. Talk about duplication of roles,” Wamae said.

Wamae’s lashing at Governor Johnson Sakaja’s poor handling of the drainage system comes hours after lawyer Willis Otieno also faulted the Nairobi City County boss for complacency. Otieno added that Sakaja will serve a whole term without fixing the flooding menace in the country’s capital city.
”Every time it rains, Nairobi CBD turns into a swamp. Sakaja will do 5 years in office without unblocking even a drainage trench. A whole governor reduced to vibes, concerts and hashtags, while the capital city drowns in mud. Leadership ya TikTok, not City Hall,” Willis Otieno said in an X statement.
Rainy period
This comes after the Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier advised the public to be cautious, as several parts of the country are expected to experience rainfall during the first week of October 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the weather agency predicted that most parts of the country will record rainfall from Tuesday, September 30, to Monday, October 6, 2025.
”Rainfall is expected in parts of the Highlands, both east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and Northwestern Kenya,” Kenya Met said.
The department further added that the coastal region may also experience occasional downpours during the highlighted period. At the same time, the Northern parts of Kenya will remain dry.
