Junet mourns death of Seme MP James Nyikal’s father

In a condolence message shared via his official X account on the night of Saturday, April 11, 2026, Junet expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late patriarch as a respected figure whose passing is a great blow to his family and the wider community.
“I have received the sad news of the passing of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father of my colleague Hon. Dr. James Wambura Nyikal. I send my condolences to Hon. Nyikal, his family, and the people of Seme during this period of grief and sorrow. May Mzee rest in eternal peace,” Junet said.

“My Father has gone to be with the lord. A life well celebrated,” he wrote.

Following the announcement, the county government of Kisumu released an official condolence message, paying tribute to the late Mzee Nyikal Okaka and his contribution to society.
Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o described him as a respected elder who played an important role in his community.
“I have learnt with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, the news of the passing of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father to Hon. Dr. James Nyikal, Member of Parliament for Seme Constituency,” Nyong’o said in the statement.
He noted that the late Mzee Nyikal dedicated his life to supporting education and community development.
“Mzee Nyikal Okaka was a distinguished elder whose life was marked by unwavering commitment to the advancement of his community and the promotion of education among the youth,” the governor added.
Nyong’o also linked the MP’s public service to the values he received from his father.
“His legacy is reflected not only in his personal contributions to society, but also in the values of service, integrity, and leadership he instilled in his family,” he said.
