Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Aftermath of June 25 demos

As politicians are expected to attend church services in various locations, their main talking points are likely to focus on the June 25 protests.

The outcome of the protest continues to shape headlines days after it occurred, particularly due to its chaotic aftermath.

President William Ruto and his allies have come out to condemn the demonstrations, especially because some police stations were targeted.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has found himself under fire for his shoot-to-kill order.

On Sunday, both government allies and those in opposition are expected to talk about the demonstrations. The position of the church, which has come under criticism as some denominations supported the demonstrations, will also be discussed.

NPS appointments

Just a day after ringing changes in the Kenya Defence Forces top ranks, President William appointed three new members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

Through a gazette notice dated Friday, June 27, 2025, and uploaded on Kenya Law on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the head of state appointed the three for a six-year term.

Peris Muthoni Kimani, Benjamin Juma Imai, and Prof. Collette A. Suda were named as commissioners under Article 246(2)(a) of the Constitution and the National Police Service Commission Act.

The appointment followed an approval and vigorous vetting process by Parliament.

These changes in the security dockets are expected to be debated by members of the public because they have been made at challenging times in the country, security-wise.

FKF Cup final

Gor Mahia and Nairobi United will battle for this season’s Football Kenya Federation Cup at Ulinzi Complex in a showdown that will begin at 3:00pm.

This is a chance for Gor Mahia to win the trophy and avoid ending the season without one after losing the Premier League race to Kenya Police.
