Protest anniversary
As the anniversary of the bloody June 25, 2024, protests approaches, political tensions are expected to flare, with competing narratives shaping Monday’s national dialogue.
The protest, led by Gen Z demonstrators, saw an unprecedented breach of Parliament and a fire set inside the premises.
Opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, have urged the government to formally recognise the day as a tribute to the public’s rejection of the Finance Bill 2024.
Government supporters, however, remain opposed.
Ongoing Israel-Iran conflict
As of June 23, 2025, the direct military confrontation between Israel and Iran continues to escalate.
The government had announced plans to evacuate Kenyans living in Israel and Iran, as the deadly conflict between the two countries continues to spiral into a full-scale regional crisis.

Military games
The 16th World Military Golf Championship is ongoing in Diani, Kwale County.
This championship, organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), officially kicked off on June 22nd and runs until June 29th at the Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort.
Military golfers from over 20 countries are participating, promoting ‘Friendship through Sport’.
Expo 2025 Osaka
The Kenya Week at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, a week-long celebration of Kenya at Expo 2025 Osaka, is in full swing.
The Kenya Week segment of Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan is scheduled for June 21 to June 24, 2025.
This forum aims to present Kenya’s trade, investment, and tourism opportunities to business leaders from Japan and other Asian countries.
The annual showcase brings together trade, culture, sports, and networking events, including a diaspora dinner, mini‑marathon, business forum, and trade exhibitions.
Planned blackout
Kenya Power announced a temporary blackout scheduled to affect a section of Nairobi, Kiambu and Kisii counties on Monday, June 23, 2025.
The utility company attributed this interruption to routine network maintenance.
“Good evening, Please be advised that the following areas will undergo a scheduled power outage on Monday, June 23, 2025, to facilitate essential network maintenance,” Kenya Power announced.
Power outages in parts of three affected counties will occur at varying times during the day.
