Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Kuria’s resignation

Kuria’s resignation Senior advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors Moses Kuria announced his resignation from the post on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The former Gatundu North Member of Parliament said he was leaving his post to concentrate on personal interests.

“This evening I have met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The president has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government.”

“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry for 11 months; Public Service, Delivery, and Performance Management for 9 months; and Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform,” Kuria said.

Although he linked his resignation to personal interest, the timing of his exit at a time Mount Kenya is at loggerheads with William Ruto’s government raises questions.

Kuria’s next steps will be watched, as people will want to see whether he will return to politics or he will indeed concentrate on personal ventures.

Aftermath of Saba Saba chaos

While individuals recount their own stories around the demonstrations, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been pursuing persons of interest in regard to the chaos caused and property destruction.

“Today in Nakuru County, a total of 192 suspects arrested for various offenses committed during the Saba Saba demonstrations yesterday were arraigned at various courts.

“17 individuals arrested in Gilgil for obstructing police officers on duty were presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Naivasha, and were released on Ksh50,000 cash bail each,” DCI said in one of their statements on Tuesday, July 8.
