Saba Saba aftermath
Saba Saba Day was marred with cases of violence, deaths, and destruction of property in various parts of the country on Monday, July 7, 2025.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, various bodies and agencies are expected to give follow-up statements regarding what transpired.
Among those expected to inform Kenyans on what happened include the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and the National Police Service.
The NPS preliminary report confirmed that 11 people lost their lives in various parts of the country during the Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, 2025, while KNCHR announced 10 deaths.
Police further announced 63 injuries were the human rights body documented 29.
Businesses are also expected to resume operations in various parts of the country after protests compelled them to shut down.
Political leaders are also expected to give their opinions and sentiments regarding what transpired during Saba Saba.
Abdi Guyo’s impeachment hearing
The Senate resumes its sittings on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, from a short recess.
The main business of the House will be the plenary hearing of the impeachment motion against Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi gazetted the sitting and directed the House to proceed in plenary, following the rejection of a proposed select committee.
The morning session begins at 10:00 a.m., with the impeachment hearing set for 2:30 p.m. in the Senate Chambers, Parliament Buildings.
This marks a critical exercise of oversight, accountability, and constitutional governance.
Gitonga Mukunji’s case
Following the arrest of Manyatta Member of Parliament, Gitonga Mukunji, he is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
The police are also expected to explain why he was arrested during the Saba Saba Day demonstration.

On Monday night, July 7, 2025, a section of concerned locals led by Juma Kalimoni condemned what they termed as a politically motivated arrest, saying the MP was being punished for championing the voice of the people.
“We demand the immediate release of our MP. He has committed no crime. This is pure political intimidation, and we shall not rest until he is free,” declared Kalimoni, warning of mass protests if the MP is not released.
The residents claimed that Mukunji’s arrest was a deliberate move to silence dissenting voices and frustrate his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race in Embu.
Kawanjiru arraignment
Peter Kinyanjui Wanjiru, widely known as “Kawanjiru,” and Serah Wanjiku Thiga are set to appear before the Kahawa Law Courts on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
The duo were apprehended by anti-terror police shortly after being granted bail and is expected to face charges of committing a terrorist act under Section 4(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 30 of 2012.
The charges stem from a wave of destruction that rocked several government facilities in Kikuyu on 25 June 2025 during the Gen Z protest that rocked the country.
Initially, they were scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, July 7, 2025, for the plea-taking, but it was postponed due to heightened security concerns stemming from the ongoing Saba Saba protests across the country.
Weather forecast
The Kenya Meteorological Department issued an advisory outlining expected weather conditions across the country and highlighting areas likely to receive rainfall over the next seven days, from Tuesday, July 8, to Monday, July 14, 2025.
According to the latest weather forecast rainfall is expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Western, and Northwestern Kenya.
“Rain is expected in the following areas: Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western Kenya and North-western Kenya,” Kenya Met stated.
The weatherman noted that the rainfall is likely to be accompanied by isolated storms in some areas and may vary in intensity from light showers to heavy downpours.
In the advisory, the weatherman also warned of cold and cloudy conditions, particularly over the South-Eastern Lowlands, sections of the Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands.
“Cold & Cloudy Conditions Likely over Parts of: Highlands East & West of the Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands and Rift Valley,” the weatherman predicted.
Despite the cool nights, daytime temperatures are expected to warm up to around 30°C across the northeastern and northwestern regions.
