The High Court yesterday heard that journalist Jacque Maribe lied two times to police about how Joseph Irungu alias Jowie sustained gunshot wounds a day after businesswoman Monica Kimani was murdered.

The chief investigator, Maxwell Otieno, told the court that they established Jowie shot himself in Maribe’s house and the two tried to conceal the evidence.

Justice Grace Nzioka heard that Maribe, in her two statements recorded on different days, claimed that Jowie  was attacked by thugs, despite the fact that she knew he had shot himself  with the gun of Brian Kasaine, her neighbour.

The investigating officer said that during interrogation, Kasaine confessed that on the night of the shooting, Maribe had admitted to him that Jowie shot himself.

Kasaine said he had given his gun to Jowie who wanted to perfect his weaponry skills. He also revealed that on the night Jowie shot himself, the two — Jowie and Maribe — ran to his gate and banged it .When he opened, he found Jowie lying on the ground bleeding.

The investigating officer produced voluminous exhibits to tie Maribe and Jowie to the murder of Monica Kimani.
