Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has assured Tana River residents of being part and parcel of an inclusive government under President William Ruto’s leadership.

Speaking during an empowerment drive in Hola, Tana River County on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the CS asked residents of Galole to align with the incumbent regime, stressing that the region’s agenda for development was adequately catered for by the government.

“The president and his DP have led the call for national unity, and I want to tell you today that it is what we will prioritise so that every Kenyan can feel part of this country. If a road is built in Eldoret, it should also be built in Tana River. If it is built in Kisumu, it is also built in Kilifi and other parts of the country,” he stated.

The CS further asserted that the coastal region would no longer be sidelined due to its few numbers, stating that the president had vowed to end the sectoral politics being peddled by a section of opposition leaders.

“Our plans for the future are now in the safe hands of Ruto as the president. And I want to tell those who thought that they were the majority and wanted the few to be sidelined, Ruto has now changed that politics so that every community in the country, however small it may be, can feel as part of this country,” he stated.

Mungatana chides Gachagua

Speaking at the same function, Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana took a swipe at the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his divisive politics while serving as the country’s second DP.

The former MP termed Gachagua’s tenure a national embarrassment.

“We have now embraced Kindiki as a good neighbour who has visited us frequently. He is also a fitting and proper DP. The former was a shame of a president. He used to claim and say that the coastal region is not in his plans, and so on. His plans were only shares of the people from his backyard,” he stated.

“It is the reason why we said we will impeach him and control him, but (Mwengi) Mutuse came up with a motion that got him impeached. We want to build a Kenya that is united, but he (Wamunyoro) wanted to chain us with chains of tribalism. It is why we are now united and heading in one direction as coastal leaders,” the former Garsen MP stated.
