1. Reaction to KCSE results

After Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu released the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results yesterday, reactions are expected throughout the day.

Just like how the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results generated heat with some questioning its authenticity, stakeholders, political leaders, and parents are expected to air their opinions on the 2023 KCSE.

Questions are specifically expected to be asked after a high number of students scored the lowest grade; E in last year’s examination.

When CS Machogu released the results on Monday, January 8, he said that a large number of candidates (48,174) scored a mean grade of E.

Meanwhile, students and schools that performed well in the examination are expected to continue celebrating their success.

2. Raila endorsement

Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe’s endorsement of Raila Odinga for the 2027 presidential poll is expected to cause a storm, especially within the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition.

Although he made his statement on Sunday, given the weight of his opinion, members of the opposition outfit who are aligned with Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua are expected to challenge Murathe’s take.

3. Teams arrive for AFCON

Teams that will participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations are expected to keep arriving for the biennial tournament.

The competition will start on January 13 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and teams, together with their leading stars, have started landing in the West African nation.

24 teams will vie to dethrone the AFCON reigning champions, Senegal, who are seen as the pre-tournament favourites.

4. Kenya’s preparation for Dubai series

Eyes will be on the national rugby sides Kenya 7s and Lionesses who jetted out for the World Rugby HSBC Challenger 2024 on Monday, January 8.

The teams will start their campaigns on January 12, 2023, and that means their preparations for them will attract considerable attention from the sport’s fans.

Shujaa will start their Challenger Series against Mexico on Friday, January 12, at 1:14 p.m. They will also face Uganda and Germany in Pool C.

The Lionesses, assigned to Pool B, will kick off their campaign against China on Friday, January 12, at 11:36 a.m., followed by matches against Czechia and Mexico.
