Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi accompanied William Ruto on Sunday, August 31, 2025, as the president graced a church function at St Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Alego Usonga, Siaya County.

Ruto touched down at the Siaya’s Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds aboard the official presidential airplane, Kenya Air Force, and was welcomed by Governor James Orengo.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Orengo, Senator Oburu Odinga, and MPs Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga), Otiendo Amollo (Rarieda), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), David Ochieng (Ugenya), and Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o (Langata), were among other leaders present.

Commissioning projects

As part of his itinerary afterwards, the president is expected to tour the area and commission other development projects of water and markets in the region.

Ruto’s visit comes a day after he joined the faithful of the Catholic Church in Kpasabet, Nandi County, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, for the installation of a new bishop of the parish.

On the political front, the trip to Siaya follows an intense month of political activity that kept Ruto and his broad-based partner, Raila Odinga, in the spotlight.

Under the guidance of the two principals, the United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement recently affirmed their partnership under the broad-based government arrangement and resolved to a collaborative working relationship that involves building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on March 7, 2025, aimed at fostering national cohesion and inclusive prosperity.

Meanwhile, the foregoing comes after Orengo revealed that both Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga were expected to preside over the Siaya International Trade and Investment Conference (SITICO 2025).

Investment forum

According to Orengo, the four-day investment forum is designed to position the county as a magnet for local and global investors.

”Today, we formally announce the Siaya International Trade & Investment Conference (SITICO 2025). This flagship conference will position Siaya as a key destination for investment and enterprise, translating ambition into projects that create jobs, expand markets, and improve lives,” Orengo said in a statement.

The forum is scheduled to run from October 14 to 17, 2025.
