Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo met with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in his Karen office on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, to discuss development matters.

In a statement, Governor Guyo said that he looked forward to a close working relationship with Kindiki following his assumption of the office.

“We discussed key development priorities for Isiolo County. These included fast-tracking the operationalization of Oldonyiro Sub-County by year-end, pending the appointment of a new Internal Security Cabinet Secretary. We also stressed the need to complete ongoing road projects in Isiolo CBD, with an extra 10 km extension to boost connectivity and economic growth,” Guyo said.

Adding: “To address security concerns, we advocated for National Police Reservist (NPR) recruitment across Isiolo. We also emphasized the importance of expanding power infrastructure to underserved areas and improving network connectivity in remote areas like Daaba and Iresaboru to enhance communication.”

During the visit, Governor Guyo was accompanied by Isiolo Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya.

The meeting comes just after Kindiki chaired his first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Governance, Social Sector and Public Administration at the Karen office on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Cabinet Secretaries; John Mbadi (National Treasury and Economic Planning), Julius Migos Ogamba (Education), Eric Muriithi Mugaa (Water, Irrigation and Sanitation), and Beatrice Askul Moe (East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development) attended the meeting.

Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports), Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Soipan Tuya (Defence), Dr. Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), Dr. Debra Barasa (Health), Dorcas Oduor (Attorney General), and Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau.

Hit the ground running

Some of the official duties Kindiki has done over the past two weeks after his assumption of office include representing President William Ruto in Botswana during the inauguration of the country’s President Duma Boko on November 8, 2024.

He assumed office officially on November 1, 2024, following the impeachment of his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua who was accused of eleven charges; five of which the Senate upheld to be substantive grounds for his removal from office.

Gachagua had barely served two years when the fallout between him and Ruto became apparent, escalating into an impeachment motion in the National Assembly where it was overwhelmingly endorsed before it made its way to the Senate.

The former second-in-command retired to his Mathira home in Nyeri County from where he has maintained a low profile, promising to stage a comeback in the coming elections.
