Irungu Kang’ata awarded best Senator in Central

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has been awarded as the best senator in Central region’s County gala awards.

A visibly pleased Kang’ata posted a photo on his social media pages of him and Chinga Ward MCA Kiruga Thuku at the award’s event held at Kempinski hotel in Nairobi.

”Humbled to have been awarded Best Senator in Central Region for championing ” 1 Man 1 Shilling ” motion in the Senate,” Kang’ata said.

According to Kang’ata, his motion led to the allocation of additional resources to counties with Murang’a scooping an additional Ksh890 million.

He dedicated the award to Muranga County residents for their resilience and industry.

‘’Service to the people is service to God, congratulations to my friend Hon Kiruga, MCA Chinga Ward Nyeri,’’ Kang’ata said.

The award might come in hand for the former Senate Majority whip, who has declared interest in the Murang’a governor’s seat in the upcoming general election come 2022.

Kang’ata has been making inroads in tours in Murang’a town and its environs in a bid to reach out to the 600,000 Murang’a voters.

Kang’ata has identified himself with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), affiliated to Deputy President William Ruto, as the political party that will sponsor him in the 2022 election.

He says he is interested in improved healthcare and implementation of minimum guaranteed Return in coffee and tea sectors.

The lawmaker presents himself as a modest politician and is described as among the “poorest” lawmakers and often claims to be living a simple life, having amassed his wealth while working as a lawyer.

The guest of honour was Senate speaker Ken Lusaka.
