Ipoa: River Yala bodies may have the same killers

By , October 25, 2022

Most of the 25 people whose bodies were retrieved from River Yala in Siaya County could have been killed by the same perpetrators, judging by the manner in which they were killed.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) yesterday said their investigations into the killing, abductions, murders, and enforced disappearances by the police had so far positively identified 19 bodies while another 88 people are still missing.

The IPOA chairperson Ann Makori said a total of 25 bodies were recovered from River Yala on diverse dates.

“Having attended all the post-mortem examinations, the general emerging trend as the cause of death was determined as head injuries, abdominal and chest injuries. Preliminary investigations point out that the nature of injuries sustained or cause of death point to same or similar perpetrators,” Makori stated.

Amongst the 19 victims of the Yala River murders is Corporal John Otieno who was earlier attached to the GSU armory and went missing on July 9 from Ruaraka.
