Interior PS Omollo outlines programme for Raila’s burial on Sunday
By Luke Oluoch, October 18, 2025Interior CS Raymond Omollo has revealed the details of the set to take place at the final farewell journey of Raila Odinga’s burial on Sunday, October 18, 2025.
According to the PS, Raila’s remains will have an overnight stay at his Opoda farm ahead of a busy Sunday when the former PM will be laid to rest.
Sunday’s events will kick off at 9:00 am with a church service at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Science and Technology (JOOST) grounds.
The military will then take over the ceremony for military procedures associated with a state burial at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi’s grave site.
Everthing ready
“We will have the final burial ceremony here tomorrow at JOOST grounds. We have everything ready. The body will have an overnight stay at Opoda farm,”
“The Service tomorrow will begin at 9:00 am to be conducted by the Anglican Church; thereafter, the military will take over for the final bit of the ceremony, according to the regulations of a state burial,” he stated.

The PS has also reassured the public that arrangements to livestream the event for all those who will not be physically present at the function.
“We have necessary arrangements with our officers. I want to appeal to the public and mourners who will come to follow through and comply with directions,” he stated.
Broadcasting the burial
“We will have screens in other towns, including here at Bondo, Nairobi Mombasa, Garissa, and Isiolo for those who will not be able to come. The event will also be streamed live, so it will be possible for everyone who will tune-in to be able to follow the proceedings,”he confirmed.
The directives came moments after Raila’s remains touched down at the Opoda farm at 4:20 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
The deceased remains descended at the expansive Opoda farm aboard a military chopper, amid wailing from crowds gathered on the sides to catch a glimpse of what was the deceased’s final farewell journey.
Siaya Senator, Oburu Odinga, and Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga were seen preparing to receive the body.
Residents of Bondo later proceeded to view the body of their departed son in an emotional moment amid tight security from military officers overseeing the event.
