Infotrak Survey: Babu Owino overtakes Ndindi Nyoro as top-rated MP

By , July 1, 2026

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has emerged as Kenya’s highest-rated Member of Parliament in the latest Infotrak leadership survey, overtaking Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who slipped to third place.

The survey, released on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, ranked Owino first with an approval rating of 80 per cent. Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga followed in second place with 78 per cent, while Nyoro tied for third position with Taveta MP John Bwire, with each receiving a 76 per cent rating.

Nyoro’s drop marks a shift from previous Infotrak surveys, where he consistently featured as either the top-performing MP or finished closely behind Owino.

The nationwide survey assessed public perceptions of Members of Parliament, Senators and Women Representatives, offering a citizen-driven evaluation of leadership and service delivery ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to Infotrak, the study gathered responses from 87,286 participants across all 47 counties. Respondents rated their leaders on a scale of one to ten, with one indicating very poor performance and ten representing excellent performance.

“Elections give citizens the power to choose leaders. Between elections, citizens continue to observe, assess and judge the quality of leadership they receive. They observe whether leaders are present or absent,” Infotrak said.

Among the other legislators who featured prominently were Samburu West MP Josephine Lesuuda, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo Kipkoech, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and Mkurweini MP John Kaguchia Gichohi, who each recorded a 73 per cent approval rating.

Also ranking above the 70 per cent mark were Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Samburu East MP Jackson Lekumontare, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu Nzioka and Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi.

Beyond the National Assembly, the survey also ranked Senators and Women Representatives. Kirinyaga County dominated both categories, with Woman Representative Njeri Maina posting a 67 per cent approval rating, while Senator Kamau Murango topped the Senate rankings with 69 per cent.

Infotrak said the rankings reflect how citizens perceive their leaders based on visibility, accessibility, responsiveness, communication and stewardship of public resources.
