Impala Saracens wrapped up their maiden Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship league by ending Nondescript’s unbeaten run courtesy of a 7-0 win last Saturday but the win was not enough to propel the Ngong road-based club to the top four playoffs scheduled for this Saturday after missing a crucial bonus in their victory.

The immediate former Kenya Cup side scored the sole try of the match in the first half of the game through Frank Aduda with Samuel Oliech slotting in the conversion to inflict the first loss on the table toppers who irrespective of the loss, remained unmoved on the standings command and are set to host South Coast Pirates.

The Sarries who won the first five editions of the Kenya Cup league between 1970 and 1974 have been through tough times in the second-tier league and they needed to win by scoring at least four tries for a priceless bonus point that could have earned them the fourth playoffs spot to face Nondies again but South Coast Pirates disrupted that plan by securing a bonus off a pound for pound clash they lost 25-33 to second-placed Daystar Falcons who will host Kisumu in the other semi.

Winners of the semi-finals will be automatically promoted to the Kenya cup league whereas the losers will be braced for a tougher incoming season to be kicked off mid-November this year.

On the final standings, points difference favoured 4th placed Pirates who are tied on 34 points with 5th placed Impala and it will be the former whose dream to earn a maiden Kenya cup slot will remain alive after an upsetting previous season where they lost home semifinals to Mean Machine in Diani, South Coast.

Wounded by their maiden league loss to Impala last Saturday, Nondies will be geared to deploy their best guns and top skills to confirm a double over Pirates in an 80 minutes affair that will determine if the 17-time Kenya cup champions will return to the top flight or if it will be the Coastal side that will carry the day and give Kenya Cup sides a long-awaited tour to Diani in honour of away fixtures.
