IEBC urges Kenyans to register anywhere without necessarily travelling to their home county

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reminded citizens that voter registration is now accessible across the country, allowing people to register without needing to return to their home counties.

This comes as the Commission launched a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) period, set to run until Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, IEBC emphasised that the registration process has been made more convenient through the deployment of open kits, ensuring that citizens can register for any polling station from nearby registration centres.

“You do not need to travel to your home county to register. The Commission has deployed open kits, which allow a citizen to register as a voter for any polling station in Kenya from the registration centre near you,” the statement reads.

IEBC pointed out the various registration services available during the ECVR period, including new voter registration, transfer of registration, correction of particulars, and inspection of registration details.

“ECVR is taking place in County Assembly Wards, Universities and Colleges in respective Constituencies, Huduma Centres, IEBC Customer Experience Centre -Anniversary Towers, Nairobi and IEBC Constituency offices,” the statement reads.

On the application for the transfer of registration, IEBC said the individuals should visit the IEBC Constituency Office where they wish to transfer to.

On the correction or update of voter particulars, individuals should visit the IEBC Constituency Office where they are registered, while those who want inspection of registration details will need to visit any IEBC Constituency Office or check the IEBC website.

“For any other electoral-related information, visit IEBC Constituency Offices or Social Media pages: IEBC Kenya,” the commission added.

The Commission clarified that while the ECVR is widely available, it will not be conducted in areas where by-elections or ongoing election petitions are taking place. This ensures that the process does not interfere with scheduled electoral events and maintains fairness and transparency.

“Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) will take place for 30days up to Tuesday, April 28, 2026. ECVR shall NOT be undertaken in electoral areas with scheduled by-elections (Porro Ward, Endo Ward, Emurua Dikirr Constituency and Ol Kalou Constituency) and ongoing election petitions (Malava Constituency and Mbeere North Constituency),” the commission stated.

The IEBC urged all eligible citizens to take advantage of the registration period, noting that these measures are designed to improve voter access, ensure inclusivity, and strengthen Kenya’s democratic process ahead of future elections.
