IEBC rubbishes alleged BBI sabotage
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has rubbished claims of sabotaging the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI).
The commission though the Chairman Wafula Chebukati said it has been accused wrongly of “being part of a scheme that is sabotaging the BBI”. Chebukati said his team has been accused of deliberately slowing down BBI signature verification.
“In response to the above accusations, the Commission would like to state that the allegation that the Commission is sabotaging the process is not only unfortunate but also completely false,” said Wafula Chebukati on January 14.
Mr. Chubukati said Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has been spreading false information to the media that the commission is derailing the BBI process.
MP Junet had said there was no internet connection at the Bomas of Kenya where the signature verification is taking place. Mr. Chebukati said he had deployed his best team at Bomas.
The electoral body boss said his commission cannot sabotage its own work mandated by the Constitution.
