IEBC, ORPP pledge close collaboration to ensure peaceful 2027 elections
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to ensure a credible and peaceful 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on X on January 15, 2026, the Commission said the engagement comes as both institutions aim to strengthen their coordination ahead of the election period.
“The Commission today, led by IEBC Chairperson Ethekon, hosted a delegation from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, ORPP Kenya, led by the Registrar of Political Parties Lorionokou,” the statement read.

During the meeting, Chairperson Ethekon noted that both institutions have complementary roles in Kenya’s electoral framework and highlighted their history of successful collaboration.
“Welcoming the delegation, Chairperson Ethekon noted that the mandates of IEBC Kenya and ORPP Kenya are complementary and closely aligned. He highlighted the strong history of collaboration between the two institutions and affirmed that the cooperation will continue,” the statement added.
Lorionokou expressed gratitude for the meeting and reaffirmed the legal obligations that bind the two bodies to cooperate in fulfilling their respective mandates.

“Lorionokou thanked the Commission for hosting the ORPP Kenya delegation and reaffirmed that the two institutions are bound by law to work together and cooperate in fulfilling their respective mandates. He stressed the importance of structured dialogue and sustained engagements among IEBC Kenya, ORPP Kenya, PPLC, and political parties to ensure peaceful elections,” the statement said.
The ORPP boss also urged all electoral stakeholders to uphold peace and take responsibility for maintaining stability throughout the election period.
“He further called on all electoral stakeholders to commit to peaceful elections and to take individual responsibility in promoting harmony and stability,” the statement added.

The IEBC underscored that close collaboration is critical given the challenges that arise during election cycles.
“He observed that election periods present numerous challenges, making close collaboration essential. The Chairperson emphasised the need for IEBC Kenya, ORPP Kenya, the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC), and political parties to work together, partner effectively, and sequence their activities to deliver a credible 2027 General Election,” the statement concluded.
The two institutions pledged to continue regular dialogue, structured engagement, and coordinated planning as part of broader efforts to ensure that Kenya’s elections are peaceful, transparent, and credible.
