IEBC confirms hitch in public voter search services after uproar

By , July 7, 2026

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a temporary disruption of some online voter services.

The electoral body said it is undertaking a routine upgrade of its ICT systems aimed at improving the reliability, security, and performance of its services.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the commission said the ongoing upgrade will temporarily affect public voter search services available through its online verification portal, as well as voter transfer services and requests for change of voter particulars.

“The Commission wishes to inform stakeholders and members of the public that we are currently undertaking a routine upgrade of our ICT systems to enhance reliability, security and performance of our services,” IEBC said.

Continuos registration

Despite the temporary interruption of the online services, the commission assured Kenyans that voter registration will continue without disruption at all 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centres and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

“However, the ongoing voter registration at the 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centers and Customer Experience Center at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi will continue uninterrupted,” the commission stated.

“The Commission will communicate once the exercise is complete. We thank you for your understanding.”

Concerns over IEBC Portal

The IEBC notice follows concerns from the public over the voter verification portal after a section of Kenyans reported that their details were missing or had changed, prompting a wave of reactions on social media.

The complaints resurfaced on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, after users checking their voter details found that polling stations they had previously selected were no longer reflected on the portal.

Others claimed their assigned polling stations appeared to have changed, while some could not see stream numbers.

“One social media user wrote, “Wameanua zangu pia… Hawa wakijua among my daily stresses ni venye nachange polling station itabidi warudishe.”

Another posted:“Ama tunapiga kura Ol Kalou ndio maana hatuko kwa polling station zetu?”

Announcement of continuous voter registration

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Erastus Ethekon announced that voter registration will remain open despite the conclusion of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise.

In a statement late Tuesday night, April 28, 2026, Ethekon said Kenyans who were met by the deadline can still register as voters at Huduma Centres, IEBC constituency offices, and at the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

“Please note that voter registration will continue at Huduma Centres, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, as well as at IEBC Constituency Offices,” Ethekon said.
