ICT CS Kabogo launches public consultation on AI and emerging technologies policy
By David Nthua, July 28, 2026Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has invited Kenyans to submit comments on the country’s draft artificial intelligence policy.
Kabogo said on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, that public views would help determine how Kenya develops, deploys and regulates artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
The Draft Kenya Artificial Intelligence and Other Emerging Technologies Policy 2026 is open for public participation until August 4, 2026.
“Every technological revolution presents a defining choice: to simply adopt innovation or to shape its future,” Kabogo said.
He invited innovators, researchers, software developers, entrepreneurs, universities, civil society organisations, students and other citizens to review the document.
Policy to guide AI development and regulation
Kabogo said artificial intelligence was transforming economies, creating industries and changing how governments provide public services.
He said Kenya had an opportunity to build an AI ecosystem that promotes innovation while protecting national interests and citizens’ rights.
“The ideas we receive today will shape how Kenya governs AI, fosters innovation, protects fundamental rights, develops digital talent and strengthens our competitiveness in the global digital economy,” he said.
The draft is expected to provide a national framework for the development, adoption, deployment and governance of AI and other emerging technologies.
It will also address innovation, digital trust, data governance, security, skills development and responsible AI use.
The proposed policy follows the Kenya Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030.
The strategy called for an adaptable legal and regulatory framework, local AI safety standards and risk assessment mechanisms.
How Kenyans can submit comments
Members of the public can access the draft through the ICT ministry’s website.
They can submit their views using the Kenya Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Policy Public Participation Form 2026.
A feedback template is also available on the ministry’s public participation page. The ministry has set August 4 as the deadline for submissions.
Kabogo said the consultation would help create a policy that supports innovation, inspires public confidence and positions Kenya as a leading digital economy in Africa.
“Your voice matters. Your ideas will help shape Kenya’s AI future,” he said.
