I don’t regret voting yes on Bill, says Lari MP
A Kenya Kwanza legislator from Kiambu county has asserted that he has no apologies to make for voting “Yes” during the controversial Finance Bill debate which has since been withdrawn.
Lari MP Mburu Kahangara says that he had thoroughly read and analysed the whole document and it had articles which would have steered the country to greater heights of development.
He told his constituents yesterday that, even President William Ruto would not want to introduce a Bill that would have pushed the people of this country into a tight corner. “I cannot see a reason as to why I can apologise. I supported the bill based on what I had read and understood it” he said.
Contoversial clauses
He added; “Even the President himself did not have plans to mislead you or anyone. However, let us respect what happened, we shall sit down in future and look into the controversial clauses.”
He spoke at Kimende town in his Lari constituency when he issued bursary cheques to all day school secondary school students in the constituency.
Despite a backlash from the local Gen Z population, the function went on smoothly with neither jeering nor roughing up of the legislator as has been witnessed in several other constituencies.
The MP said a meeting that brought together local education officers, schools principals, teachers and boards of management, they resolved to reduce the feeding program fees.
The legislator noted that the stakeholders harmonised the feeding program fees with each parent requested to pay Sh 2000 per term and while the rest will be paid by the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
