Hundreds of mourners  turned out on Saturday for the final burial rites of journalist Robin Njogu at his Sibanga home in Trans Nzoia county.

Njogu succumbed to Covid-19 related complications at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi last week.

Among the attendees were the deceased’s friends, media personalities and law makers.

Head of Media Development and Strategy at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Victor Bwire was among those who attended.

Bwire eulogized the late Njogu as a treasure in the media. He challenged other media practitioners to emulate Njogu.

“The passing of Robin has hit us who interacted with him. We have lost a colleague, a professional, and a selfless man who portrayed professionalism, respect, and networks which are important in the media industry,” said Bwire .

He urged media practitioners colleagues to emulate his high standards and unrivaled level of professionalism to enable the industry to move forward.

Royal Media strategy director Linus Kaikai described the late Njogu as a very unique person who excelled and rose upwards through mentoring upcoming journalists.

“We will miss his qualities among them a rare personality with unrivaled standards rarely seen in the practice of Journalism. It is my believe that as we lay him to rest others will emulate him to maximize their potential,’’ he said.

The deceased’s father George Njogu said the passing of his son had left a big gap that would not be filled easily and asked for prayers for the family.

“He was a special gift from God and his death is a big blow to my family. I accept that God has taken him away but he has left a big gap,” mourned the father.

Njogu’s widow Carol described him as a loving man, friend and father who took care of their three children.

She said the cruel hand of death had snatched her of a loving partner whose gap will not be filled.

Members of Parliament , Joshua Kositany, Chris Wamalwa, and Joshua Kuttuny were not allowed to address the mourners.
