Residents of Makueni County will now have more time to access government services after Huduma Kenya announced that the Makueni Huduma Centre will begin operating under extended working hours starting Monday, July 20, 2026.

In an update shared on its official social media platforms on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Huduma Kenya said the centre will now be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, allowing residents to access government services before and after conventional working hours.

“Andu Ma Makueni, starting this Monday, 20th July, Makueni Huduma Centre will now officially offer services from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday,” the agency announced.

More time to access government services

The move is expected to benefit thousands of residents who have traditionally struggled to visit Huduma Centres during the normal 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. working day due to employment, business or school commitments.

With the extended schedule, residents will be able to access a wide range of government services including National Identity Card applications and collection, birth and death certificate services, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) services, Social Health Authority (SHA) registration and support, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) services, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) services, business registration, eCitizen support, and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) services.

Part of nationwide service expansion

The announcement comes as Huduma Kenya continues expanding extended operating hours across the country to improve access to public services and reduce congestion at service centres.

Earlier this year, the agency announced that selected Huduma Centres would begin operating from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., targeting busy urban centres where demand for government services remains high.

The programme has since been expanded, with additional centres joining the extended-hours initiative as the government seeks to make public services more convenient and citizen-friendly.

Reducing queues and improving service delivery

Huduma Kenya has previously said the extended hours are intended to ease overcrowding, shorten waiting times and provide greater flexibility for Kenyans who are unable to visit government offices during regular working hours.

The initiative is particularly expected to benefit employed Kenyans, entrepreneurs, students and traders who often have limited time to seek government services during the day.

By spreading customer visits across a 12-hour operating window, the agency hopes to improve service efficiency while enhancing the overall customer experience.

Broader digital and service reforms

The latest development comes amid broader efforts by Huduma Kenya to modernise public service delivery.

In recent months, the agency has rolled out sign language interpretation services at selected Huduma Centres to improve accessibility for deaf customers, partnered with the Retirement Benefits Authority to expand pension-related services, and intensified the Huduma Mashinani programme, which takes government services closer to communities through mobile outreach clinics.

The government has maintained that expanding service hours and decentralising access to public services are part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, reducing travel costs for citizens and ensuring that more Kenyans can conveniently access essential government services.
