Homa Bay ODM leaders dare county officials opposing Gladys Wanga to resign
By Faith Lagat, September 2, 2025In a strong display of unity, ODM women leaders in Homa Bay have issued a stern warning to critics of Governor Gladys Wanga, urging them to either back her leadership or step aside.
The call on September 2, 2025, comes amid mounting political tensions and in recognition of the county’s developmental progress under Wanga and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Backing achievements
Benta Agan, ODM Women Leader from Kochia, praised Wanga’s contributions, noting the tangible benefits for residents. “We have to thank our governor for the developments she has brought to the community. We should back and rally behind her. These benefits will last for generations,” Agan said.
Similarly, Claris Ouma highlighted that the county has achieved more in three years than it did in a decade. “There is no room for critics if they are not ready to support this government. A county needs a development-oriented leader like Wanga,” Ouma said.
Hildegard Omwenga, ODM Chairperson in Homa Bay, went further, insisting that dissenting county officials must make a choice. “Officials who are in government but refuse to support Wanga must either follow directives or resign,” she stated, emphasizing the uncompromising stance of the women leaders.

Partnerships
The unified message comes shortly after Wanga acknowledged the role of the Kenya Kwanza government in accelerating county development.
Speaking at the Devolution Conference on August 13, 2025, Wanga highlighted the progress achieved through collaboration with the national government. “When you last visited Homa Bay in January 2023, much of this development was not here. Despite being in opposition, the government ensured no county was left behind,” she said, crediting President William Ruto for fostering inclusive development.
The conference, themed “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice,” showcased projects including the dualisation of the main highway and the Lake Pier, enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic opportunities. Wanga’s leadership in hosting high-profile events such as the International Investment Conference has positioned her as a nationally recognised figure.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, in his closing remarks, lauded Wanga’s efforts, reiterating the government’s commitment to devolution as a tool for equity and inclusion. The warning by ODM women leaders signals a critical juncture in Homa Bay politics, underscoring the importance of loyalty to Wanga’s vision for sustained progress.
