A man who shot the owner of the popular Nairobi’s K’osewe Ranalo Foods restaurant William Osewe, six times over a love triangle has a case to answer on attempted murder, the High Court has ruled.

In her ruling Friday, chief magistrate Martha Mutuku said the prosecution has established a prima facie case against Tom Oywa Mboya.

On December 9, 2016 Mboya denied two counts of attempted murder by shooting Osewe in the stomach and chest. He was released on Sh300,000 cash bail.

If found guilty, the accused will serve life in prison for attempted murder.

It is alleged that Mboya and Osewe were fighting over a woman identified as Stella Mutheu, who is the latter’s wife.

Mboya is accused of trying to kill Osewe and another man, Wilfred Ombunya Tembula, on December 1, 2016 at a restaurant in Garden estate..

The accused, who at one time chauffeured Osewe, surrendered to Kasarani Police Station after the shooting incident and alleged that their fallout was as a result of suspicions that he was unusually close to Osewe’s wife.

Osewe, who was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital’s High Dependency Unit where he underwent a series of surgeries to remove bullets lodged in his abdomen, testified in court while in a wheel chair.
