Helb invites students to apply for study loans
The Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) is inviting undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for education loans, bursaries and partial scholarships.
Invitation comes just a week after Helb opened its portal for 2024-25 loan applications under the new funding model.
The loan is aimed at providing financial support to vulnerable students to ensure they can pursue education without constraints.
Helb is targeting first-time Kenyan students from public and private institutions recognised by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Eligible students can apply for the loans and scholarships via the Higher Education Financing Portal website www.hef.co.ke.
Helb outlined several requirements specific to each category of students. Undergraduate applicants must be Kenyan students placed in public universities by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Kenyan students placed or in self-sponsored programmes in public or private universities in Kenya and the East African Community that are recognised by CUE are also eligible.
There will be two categories for the funding model for undergraduate loans and scholarships – the old funding model and the new programme. The old funding model targets undergraduate students applying for scholarships and loan for the first time.
