Guinness World Records reacts as Truphena Muthoni’s tree-hugging feat grips Kenya
Guinness World Records has officially reacted to Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni’s record-breaking tree-hugging attempt, as anticipation continues to grow over one of the country’s most talked-about Jamhuri Week moments.
The global records body confirmed that Muthoni’s bold conservation-driven challenge has drawn widespread attention, both locally and internationally.
In a public statement shared on X on Friday, December 13, 2025, Guinness World Records acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding Muthoni’s attempt and confirmed that the process of verification was underway.

“Truphena Muthoni’s tree-hugging record attempt this week in Kenya, inspired by a deep-rooted passion for trees and the vital role they play in our ecosystem, has in turn inspired many comments on our social channels,” Guinness World Records said.
The organisation added that fans eager for the outcome would not have to wait much longer.
“We know Truphena’s fans are excited to hear the results, and we look forward to receiving and assessing the evidence,” the statement read.

The reaction marked the first public acknowledgement by Guinness World Records of the challenge that saw Muthoni spend more than 72 continuous hours hugging a single tree in a powerful campaign blending environmental conservation and mental health awareness. Her feat sparked a national conversation, drew praise from political leaders, and inspired many Kenyans to reflect on the relationship between people, nature, and wellbeing.
