Govt urges Kenyans abroad to register with missions amid safety concerns
The State Department for Foreign Affairs has issued a public notice urging Kenyans living abroad to register with Kenya’s missions in their respective countries, citing concerns about the safety and welfare of nationals overseas.
The advisory, issued through the ministry’s official X account on Thursday, 6, 2025, calls for Kenyans to share details of citizens who may be facing potential risks in both neighbouring and distant countries.
Call for information sharing
According to the ministry, the move aims to support Kenyans who may be exposed to danger or in need of government intervention.
In the notice, the Ministry said it is requesting members of the public to “share through our inbox the names and addresses of all Kenyans who may be exposed to any sort of danger in our neighbouring countries and faraway countries.”
It further encouraged those submitting details to include contact information for a close relative or next of kin who could be engaged for follow-up and coordination.
“If possible, please include the name and contact information for a relative with whom the Ministry @Diaspora_KE and Kenya Missions abroad @Kenyahc_tz can work,” the notice stated.

Registration requirement emphasised
The Ministry also reminded Kenyans abroad of the existing requirement to register at the nearest Kenyan mission upon arrival in a foreign country.
“It is important to reiterate that as Kenyans we are all required at the earliest opportunity to register ourselves and addresses at the nearest Kenya Mission abroad; this is as indicated on page 32 of the passport of the Republic of Kenya,” the statement read.
This registration enables the government to maintain updated records, facilitate communication and extend assistance in cases such as emergencies, displacement, arrests, illness, or conflict situations.
Coordination with global missions
The ministry noted that information received from the public would be relayed to Kenya’s embassies and high commissions for action.
“Let us all work together to secure the best interests of our brothers and sisters wherever they may be. All the information you provide will be shared immediately with all the respective Kenya Missions abroad for action,” the notice stated.
It assured the public that feedback will be issued to those who submit verified information and confirmed that the communication channels remain open.
“The Ministry will provide feedback to those who share the necessary information. This account remains accessible,” the advisory concluded.
The notice remains active as the government continues efforts to strengthen consular support systems for Kenyans overseas.
