President William Ruto on Sunday, February 26, reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting the use of clean energy in the country through the provision of gas cylinders to its citizens.

Speaking during a church service at Muungano grounds in Lamu county on Sunday, February 26, President Ruto said that in the next three years, every household in the country will have a gas cylinder provided by the government.

“In the next three years, we will make sure that every home will have a gas cylinder provided by the government to ensure that we stop using firewood as a source of energy,” President Ruto said.

“We want to put to an end the use of fuels that affect the health of our women through smoke and other harmful effects of unclean fuels,” he added.

The Head of State said the Taifa Gas plant launched at Dongo Kundu in Mombasa last Friday will increase access to cooking gas in the country.

During the ground-breaking ceremony of the plant, Ruto said the government will subsidise the cost of buying gas cylinders to make them more accessible to ordinary citizens.

He also announced plans to remove all taxes on cooking gas by 2025.

“Every Kenyan household will have access to cooking gas and we will ensure that the gas prices reduce by removing all taxes on cooking gas so that we can make sure that every household in the republic of Kenya has access to gas for cooking and we can eliminate the use of wood fuel, the challenges of health and also restore our environment,” Ruto stated.

Additionally, the Head of State cautioned retailers using illegal cylinders to sell cooking gas and subsequently issued instructions that all illegal gas filling stations are eliminated.
