The government through the Ministry of Health has announced the dates when the next cohort of medical interns will be posted.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the Ministry of Health announced that the next cohort will be posted on July 1, 2025.

The posting will take place after the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) conducts balloting for pre-interns graduates on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

“The Ministry of Health will post the next cohort of Medical interns with effect from 1st July  2025. To facilitate a smooth posting process, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) will conduct balloting for pre-interns graduates on Wednesday, 30th April 2025,” the statement read in part.

The government says the placement list generated from the balloting exercise will guide the posting of interns to their respective internship centres.

“Interns are expected to receive the outcome of their individual balloting results immediately after the online balloting process on 30th April, 2025 and the Ministry will receive the outcome of the balloting by Friday 2nd May, 2025. The Ministry remains committed to supporting the growth of health workers and strengthening healthcare service delivery across the country,” the statement added.

On April 7, 2025, the Ministry of Health acknowledged receipt of petition from medical pre-interns on the immediate balloting.

“The Ministry of Health acknowledges receipt of petition from Medical Pre-interns on the immediate balloting. The Ministry take these concerns seriously and is committed to addressing the matter. A meeting between MOH leadership and @kmpdu officials is scheduled for Thursday to address the issues raised,” the Ministry stated

“Intern postings will commence as planned on 1st July 2025. We kindly call for patience from all affected parties as we work towards addressing budget and space availability for the internship.”
