Govt convenes nationwide virtual summit for all public primary school leaders

Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei held a virtual meeting bringing together school leaders from every public primary school in the country. The session aimed to review leadership, accountability, and strategies for improving school governance and learner welfare.

In a statement shared on X on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Felix Koskei said he engaged in a virtual meeting with headteachers, their deputies, senior teachers and the Board of Management of all primary schools across the country.

“Today, I convened a virtual engagement with head teachers, deputy head teachers, senior teachers, school administrative officers and Boards of Management from all public primary schools across the country,” Felix Koskei wrote.

Koskei stated that with more than 23,000 public primary schools serving over 10 million learners, the institutions form the backbone of Kenya’s education system. He stressed the importance of strong leadership and proper oversight in safeguarding public resources and supporting student welfare.

“With over 23,000 public primary schools serving more than 10 million learners, these institutions remain the foundation of Kenya’s education system.” Felix Koskei stated.

During the discussions, Koskei outlined measures to improve governance, ensure financial discipline, and enhance accountability in school management. He also emphasised the need for leaders to uphold high professional standards while fostering a learning environment that prioritizes both academic excellence and discipline.

“Our discussions focused on strengthening school governance, reinforcing financial discipline and accountability in the management of public resources, safeguarding learner welfare, and ensuring that school leadership upholds high standards of professionalism. We also emphasised the responsibility of institutional leadership to sustain academic excellence, maintain discipline, and work closely with Boards of Management and parents to advance quality basic education for every learner,” Felix Koskei stated.

Koskei went on to encourage school leaders to work hand in hand with parents and community stakeholders to achieve these goals, stating that strong governance at the school level is crucial for national development and the future of Kenya’s learners.
