Govt commits to monthly payouts for health facilities by 14th

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has announced a raft of measures aimed at enhancing service delivery the country’s health care sector.
Speaking from parliament on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Duale disclosed that the government will now ensure monthly payouts for all health facilities; public, private and faith-based by 14th.
“In a major shift from past inefficiencies, the government now ensures that all health facilities; public, private and faith-based, receive their claims by the 14th of every month.
“Unlike the former NHIF, which had no set timelines and left a Sh24 billion debt, the current system is anchored on accountability and consistency,” Duale said.
Adding;
“The Ministry stands firm on this commitment and welcomes parliamentary oversight to uphold it.”

The CS equally reiterated that the ministry has effectively operationalized Article 43(2) of the constitution which will see all Kenyans access healthcare.
While stating that the Kenya Kwanza regime has been the first to make actualize the dictation, Duale asserted that any facility caught denying citizens healthcare will be deregistered.
“If a facility denies a Kenyan who has an emergency, I want to assure the house that the facility will be deregistered,” he said.
Other reforms
The CS who was speaking during a consultative meeting with the Council of Governors (C0G) Health Committee chaired by Wajir Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi, announced that the ministry will digitize health services and the absorption of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff.
“Held a consultative meeting with the Council of Governors (CoG) Health Committee chaired by H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi, Governor of Wajir County, to address key issues in the health sector. Discussions focused on the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), digitization of health services and absorption of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff,” Duale shared.
He equally revealed that the ministry will fast-track the digitalization of health facilities across all 47 counties to improve delivery.
“We agreed to fast-track the digitalization of health facilities in all 47 counties, led by the Digital Health Agency, to improve service delivery,” his statement added.
The vocal health CS also revealed plans to allocate more resources to emergency, chronic and critical illnesses and training health facility in-charges to optimize registration of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and improve service delivery.
“To streamline UHC staff absorption and Community Health Promoter (CHP) payments, counties will conduct a headcount, while the National Government will transfer funds based on SRC-approved salary scales,” his statement added.
“I reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the health system through transparent partnerships with counties, with a focus on integrity and accountability. I also highlighted the essential role of human resources in the rollout of Taifa Care.”
