Govt announces temporary shutdown of Huduma Centre services after power outage
By Mustafa Juma, June 15, 2026The government has announced the temporary unavailability of services at Huduma Centres across the country following a power outage that affected the national data centre supporting the integrated public service system.
In a public notice issued on Monday, June 15, 2026, Huduma Kenya confirmed that the disruption has rendered key citizen services inaccessible, with technical teams currently working to restore full functionality.
Huduma data centre power failure
According to the notice, the outage originated from a power failure affecting the central data infrastructure that supports Huduma Kenya’s nationwide service delivery network.
“Huduma Kenya wishes to inform the public that services are temporarily unavailable at Huduma Centres due to a power outage that affected our data centre,” the agency stated.
The institution added that engineers and technical teams had been deployed to resolve the issue and restore services as quickly as possible.
“Our technical teams are working to restore services as soon as possible,” the statement added.
Citizens urged to remain patient
Huduma Kenya apologised to members of the public for the inconvenience caused, noting that efforts were underway to ensure normal operations resume without further delays.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience,” the notice read.

The disruption has affected multiple government services typically accessed through Huduma Centres, including civil registration, licensing support, and other integrated citizen services.
Nationwide impact on service delivery
Huduma Centres serve as one-stop shops for government services across Kenya, making the outage a significant disruption to public service access.
The temporary shutdown is expected to affect thousands of citizens who rely on the centres for daily administrative processes.
While no timeline has been provided for full restoration, authorities have assured the public that recovery efforts are ongoing.
The government has not yet indicated whether the outage was caused by internal infrastructure failure or external power supply issues.
Further updates are expected as restoration work continues.
Intermittent disruptions
This comes weeks after Huduma Kenya announced intermittent disruptions affecting services at several Huduma Centres across the country, including the Huduma Centre GPO and the Huduma Contact and Tele-Counselling Centre.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the agency said the technical interruptions have temporarily affected service delivery, inconveniencing members of the public who rely on the centres for essential government services.
According to the notice, multiple Huduma Centres have experienced intermittent system disruptions, affecting normal operations and slowing down customer service processes.
Services affected included citizen registration and document processing, in-person assistance at Huduma Centres, and contact and tele-counselling services.
