The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Kenya and Uganda are engaging to find two Kenyans abducted on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, after attending Uganda’s opposition leader  Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s political event.

Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were abducted in Kampala by armed operatives at a petrol station in Kireka, where they had gone for mechanical assistance.

According to Bobi Wine, the two were bundled into a vehicle and driven to an undisclosed location, with their whereabouts still unknown, further sparking outrage among human rights activists and opposition leaders from both countries.

In response to the matter, the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda has released a statement confirming collaborative efforts to unravel the motive behind the particular abductions and bring to light the whereabouts of the two Kenyan citizens who are still missing.

”This information is contained in a letter dated 2nd October, 2025, from Vocal Africa, addressed to the Principal Secretary (Permanent Secretary), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, which we have the honour to enclose herewith,” the statement added.

The Kenyan Embassy further requested collaboration from their Ugandan counterparts to ensure the safe return of the missing Kenyan nationals.

”In light of the foregoing, and to address the concerns raised by the families of the two Kenyan nationals, the Mission requests the Ministry’s assistance in liaising with the relevant authorities in Kampala to obtain information regarding the current situation of the missing Kenyans for the Mission to take appropriate action in securing their release and safe return to Kenya. The High Commission of the Republic of Kenya in Kampala avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda the assurances of its highest consideration,” the statement added.

Ugandan government blasted

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine, Uganda’s presidential hopeful in the next general election, has condemned the particular abduction of Kenyan activists, blasting the Ugandan government led by President Yoweri Museveni for dictatorship.

“We strongly condemn the abduction by armed operatives of Kenyan activists and human rights defenders Bob Nyagi and Nicholas Ayoo. The two were picked up mafia-style this afternoon from a petrol station in Kireka and driven off to an unknown destination!” Bobi Wine stated.

“We condemn the continuing lawlessness by the rogue regime and demand that these brothers be released unconditionally! The criminal regime apparently abducted them simply for associating with me and expressing solidarity with our cause!” he stated.

The duo had travelled to Uganda to join Bobi Wine on his campaign trail on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
