Governors hit out at medics over strike

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and his Kilifi counterpart Gedion Mung’aro have criticised doctors for their ongoing strike, accusing them of being insincere and insensitive to the public’s needs.

The governors, speaking in Malindi, expressed their disappointment, stating that the strike has plunged counties into a health crisis exacerbated by the National government’s failures.

Nassir (pictured) emphasised that doctors should not withdraw their services while still receiving their full salaries and allowances, suggesting that if they must strike, they should also forgo their salaries.

He highlighted the efforts made by the County Government of Mombasa to meet doctors’ demands, including promotions and payments to suppliers like Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) and NHIF, adding that salaries have never been delayed.

“We have done our part to ensure all our doctors and medical staff are paid on time and all statutory obligations are met. If it is the promotions which they have been demanding we have done. We are doing our best to accomplish them,” Nassir stated.

Mung’aro echoed the sentiments, stating that he pays salaries on time and that any issues with the National government should remain there.

He warned doctors of dire consequences if patients suffer due to lack of treatment.
