Governor Kihika mourns the death of a county worker, recalls their past encounter
Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has penned an emotional tribute following the loss of a Nakuru County Government staff member, the late Jackline Rono, narrating their first interaction at a public rally.
In a post on her official X account on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Kihika explained that she met the late Jackie in 2024 at a public rally before later securing a job at the county government.
At the time of their first interactions, Kihika revealed that Jackline shared her powerful journey as a cancer survivor, a story she said was a story of courage, resilience and unwavering faith.
“It was in January 2024, during one of my tours of duty, that I met Jackline Rono, who shared her powerful journey as a cancer survivor. It was a story of courage, resilience and unwavering faith,” Susan said.
The Nakuru County boss explained that despite the battles she had fought, Jackie remained focused on her dreams and deeply committed to serving her community, then working as a hospital clerk at Olenguruone Hospital.

On her part, Susan narrated that shortly after their January encounter, she welcomed Jackie into the Nakuru County Government family as a quantity surveyor.
The late Jackie then took up her role at the Department of Infrastructure, where Governor Kihika narrated that she served with diligence, humility and exceptional professionalism.
Also adding how she played a key role in ensuring timely project documentation and implementation across departments.
“Her strength moved me profoundly, and I was honoured to later welcome her into the Nakuru County Government family as a quantity surveyor. At the Department of Infrastructure, Jackie served with diligence, humility and exceptional professionalism, playing a key role in ensuring timely project documentation and implementation across departments,” she added.

The governor has confirmed that at the time of her passing, the late Jackie was serving in the Kuresoi North and South Cluster of Public Works Officers, which is a testament to the trust placed in her leadership and competence.
While paying her tribute to the family and friends, Governor Kihika explained that Nakuru County has not just lost a dedicated officer, but a brave and inspiring soul whose legacy of resilience and service will forever remain in the hearts of the people of Nakuru.
“We have lost not just a dedicated officer, but a brave and inspiring soul whose legacy of resilience and service will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Kihika added.
