Government to set up an information access centre for the youth

ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has revealed that the Government is setting up a one-stop-shop where the youth will easily access information on all government programs.
The system will also explain the various regulations and policies and will include automated bots, a web-based portal, and a hotline number.
He encouraged the youth to embrace the digital economy which he said has a lot of potential for self employment.
Speaking at St.Paul’s University in Limuru during its 29th graduation ceremony, he said the digital economy is opening up opportunities for all and the young people should take advantage.
“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment and is keen on securing a better future for all. Everyone, therefore needs to play their part in this noble course,’ he said.
He recommended the Ajira Digital program and the Huduma White Box and urged the youth to participate fully in them.
The graduation at St.Paul’s saw over 2000 learners graduate in a virtual fete where the CS was the Chief Guest. He highlighted the importance of Regional and Digital opportunity particularly the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) that was signed in Kigali Rwanda in March 2020.
“AfCTA provides the the opportunity for Africa to create the world’s largest free trade area, with the potential to unite 1.3 billion people, in Sh250 trillion economic bloc,” he said.
CS Mucheru’s Public Service and Gender counterpart Prof. Margaret Kobia who is also the University’s Chancellor said the graduation leveraged on digital technology to serve God and humanity.
She Congratulated CS Mucheru for his leadership roll in Technologies adding that technological advancement is opening up job opportunities.
“Our first ever virtual graduation is special in that we are graduating our first doctoral students,” said CS Kobia.
St. Paul’s University Council Chairman who doubles as the Arch Bishop of the Anglican Church Kenya (ACK) Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit said the education sector has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He, however, said that the sector has maintained business continuity despite the interruptions and advised the graduands to implement their ideas, dreams, skills training, and experiences.
